Rear Window

“Rear Window” is a fascinating film, that offers much more than a murder mystery. The mystery is fascinating and drives the plot, but the mystery leads to Jeff paying closer attention to his neighbours. The neighbourhood people add layers to the story.  They add a really interesting commentary about Jeff and Lisa’s relationship as it stands. Jeff is bored with the status of their relationship. But he is infatuated by watching Miss Torso from across the way from his rear window. Lisa and Jeff’s relationship is clearly not new, it is stable , but clearly lacks the infatuation. Lisa is very beautiful though she is not dancing around the apartment in a leotard. Jeff also seems cynical at the sight of the newlyweds. He doesnt much want any part of them, he seems to think they’ll get bored like he is but at least he has no firm commitments to Lisa. the irony of this is it seems the newlyweds and Jeff and Lisa have somewhat changed places relationship wise on some level by the end of the film. Jeff sympathizes with Miss Lonelyheart on the other hand, but he doesn’t want to be like her. Toward the end of the film in some of the darker moments fro Miss Lonelyheart i think Jeff realizez what a bleak and lonely future he could face without Lisa and i think here character has a notable influence on making Jeff realize his appreciation for what he has with Lisa.
